Orangeries
Orangeries date back to the 17th Century and were used for growing exotic plants and fruit for owners of grand homes. In modern day terms an Orangery is in part an elegant glasshouse with light from the sky entering from the lantern roof and side elevations. Designs for Orangeries are often created using brick and stone or some built completely in hardwood. Whatever your choice of material Orangeries are very special rooms. Orangeries now represent a growing number of solutions created for our clients - a more substantial building incorporating flat roof areas with one or more inst lanterns. This type of structure can include as much or as little solid wall as the client desires. During the last few years we have developed the expertise to incorporate reliable roof materials into our Orangery designs thus creating rooms with often a more practical everyday use whether integrated with existing accommodation. An Orangery can sometimes be the only solution when the aspect of the proposed site might preclude a more conventional conservatory. Even in our climate to much sunlight can be curse of the most beautiful glasshouse.
The roof lantern(s) in an Orangery enable you to enjoy natural overall light, or where you choose. One large roof lantern can flood a room with light like an atrium; while multiple roof lanterns let you focus light on work, dining or seating areas. Together with the light from the glazed walls of your Orangery, the room will become a bright airy space in which the whole family will want to gather.
Orangeries were once nothing more than a luxury outbuilding with the purpose of growing exotic trees and plants during winter months. When Orangeries were originally built years ago, the owners found themselves using it more and more as a place to relax and hold functions. This has translated into modern times and with exotic fruits becoming widely available, Orangeries are now used for many applications such as kitchen extensions, dining rooms or just some extra living space which can be used for relaxing, reading or holding functions.
